1 cup fennel bulb diced, fronds reserved and chopped
1/2 cup onion diced
1/2 cup carrot diced
2 cloves garlic minced
1 tablespoon tomato paste
3/4 cup red wine
28 ounce can whole tomatoes, crushed by hand
1 cup chicken broth
4 sprigs thyme
2 bay leaves
