3 tbsp caster sugar or super fine granulated white sugar

2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
½ tsp salt
13/4 cups plain (all-purpose) flour
4 cups vegetable oil for frying
Glaze:
3 tbsp butter, melted
1 cup confectioner’s sugar (powdered sugar)
¾ tsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp hot water
