Ingredients
For the cake:
1/2 cup skim milk, at room temperature
1/2 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
1 tablespoon clear vanilla flavoring (I use Wilton)
5 large egg whites, plus 1 whole egg, at room temperature
3 cups cake flour, sifted
2 cups granulated sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon slat
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes (store in refrigerator until ready to use)
For the frosting:
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
5 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 1/3 cups unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
1 cup heavy cream, at room temperature (plus more if needed)
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
